Equine Retreat - June 26-30, 2015
The first Camp Resilience Equine Retreat for Veterans ran from Friday, June 26th to Tuesday, June 30th. It was a 4 day, 4 night experience where veterans immersed themselves in a farm environment and, through working with horses as their teachers, learned important aspects about themselves that can lead to lasting positive change. The veterans lived at the farm, camping overnight, participated in all meal preparation, including collecting firewood for the campfire. The participants were involved in all aspects of horse care and farm work. The Camp Resilience Equine Retreat for Veterans was not a horseback riding adventure, but a therapeutic psycho-social experiential experience designed to meet the needs of veterans suffering with the psychological, emotional, and physical injuries of war, while also addressing issues of reintegration.
